«Sword Skills» (剣技ソードスキル, Sōdo Sukiru?) are «Spellborn Online's» combat movements that are assisted by the system. Most Sword Skills are named in English, the only exception being Katana and certain Martial Arts category skills, which are named in Japanese, but written in the English alphabet.
Sword Skills have six elemental damage properties: Fire (火, Hi), Water (水, Mizu), Earth (地, Chi), Wind (風, Kaze), Darkness (闇, Yami), and Holy (聖, Sei), which supplement the usual physical damage.
Sword Skills are activated when a player performs the appropriate «Pre-Motion» (予備動作プレモーション, Pure Mōshon, lit. "Preparation motion") for a skill, such as raising a sword atop one's shoulder. As soon as the system recognises the motion, the player's weapon begins to glow in a color specific to a Sword Skill. The player can then allow the system to take over and automatically complete the skill at a speed that is normally near impossible for a player to achieve and dealing much more damage than a regular sword swing.
After a skill is completed, the user is temporarily rendered rigid in a state called a «Post-Motion» (技後硬直ポストモーション, Posuto Mōshon, lit. "After technique stiffening"), during which the user is made vulnerable to any counter-attacks. The higher the level of the Sword Skill used, the longer the «Post-Motion» period is.
After a Sword Skill has been used, the skill enters a «Cooling» (冷却クーリング, Kūringu) period, which is displayed as a cooling icon at the bottom of the player's view. Until this period ends, the same Sword Skill cannot be used, however, any other learned skills that are not in a cooling period can still be used.

There are Six Ranks of sword skills that determine overall power based on the amount of mana put into them.
D-rank: The most basic techniques and require the lowest level of skill to use.
C-rank: These techniques are slightly more advanced and can offer more of a boost. These techniques are capable of boosting one stat for a limited time.
B-rank: This is the level that skills become more personalized and much stronger.
A-rank: This is the first level of advanced techniques. These techniques are able to boost up to two stats.
S-rank: This level of advanced techniques can even combine two elements together.
X-rank: This level is the highest form of technique and offers the most powerful attacks. Only Available Via Limited/Phantasm Skills

The elements section refers to if your weapon has any runes etched onto it that grant its abilities an elemental affinity.
Fire: Upon attack landing, 20% of the damage done is inflicted for double the duration of the attack as burn damage, which can be removed by getting into water.
Wind: Increases range of attacks by 20%
Lightning: Ignores 10% of Endurance/Durability of Armor/Weapons
Poison: Upon attack landing, deals 10% of attack damage per post for x4 the duration of the attack. Can be removed using an antidote item.
